Dorchester of Boston,Massachusetts was a small town discovered by the Puritans who were from Dorchester of Dorset, England in 1630. Dorchester is one of Boston's largest and most popular neighborhood and is around 6 square miles in size and because of this it is sometimes broken down as North Dorchester and South Dorchester. It was founded shortly after the city of Boston and is relatively the same size as Cambridge. Dorchester is one of the most diverse communities of Massachusetts.The population was only 12,000 in 1870 and has grown to almost ten times that number over the pass few centuries.The population is currently around a 100,000.
